Celebrate International Literacy Day with a multilingual approach and the SDGs

Are you ready to celebrate International Literacy Day with us in your classroom? This year’s theme, ‘Promoting multilingual education: literacy for mutual understanding and peace,’ highlights the importance of literacy in promoting social cohesion and peace around the world. In a world where multilingualism is increasingly common, adopting a multilingual approach based on the mother tongue to promote proper literacy can unlock truly significant cognitive, pedagogical, and socioeconomic benefits. This approach not only empowers students, but also strengthens community identities and fosters mutual respect.

To celebrate International Literacy Day and help you continue to inspire a love of reading, we are offering three free downloadable resources designed for each cycle of primary education. These resources focus on phonics and reading and are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making it easy to integrate these global goals into your lessons. Each resource includes detailed notes that will guide you through the activities and ensure that your students get the most out of the experience. In addition, we encourage you to keep an eye on our blog for additional free resources we offer related to the SDGs.
